11 Things I Wish They Told You About Mental Health

Mental health is an often overlooked topic. It’s not something that a lot of people are comfortable talking about, much less admitting they have it. In this mental health blog post, we will discuss 11 things I wish they told you about mental health and how to deal with it when you’re struggling.

It may seem like the only time that you won’t have to worry is when you’re asleep, but even then it can be hard to escape negative thoughts or just general anxiety. What most people don’t tell you about sleep is that some people have a lot of trouble with insomnia and often find themselves tossing and turning for hours before they are able to get any rest at all!

This not only makes them feel frustrated, but also exhausted which will make their day-to-day activities much more difficult. As there’s no quick fix to this problem, the person can try to work on getting themselves in a more relaxed headspace before they go to bed.

Light Therapy

A study has shown that people who are struggling with Seasonal Affective Disorder have found relief from their symptoms by using light therapy lamps. The best way is to start the day off by sitting under them after waking up. This will help get your serotonin levels back on track! Click here if you don’t know what kind of lamp would be good for this purpose; they come in a variety of shapes and sizes!

Exercise

It’s not always easy to find the time when you’re struggling but it is important that while dealing with depression and anxiety we keep moving! Exercising has been shown to release endorphins which are natural painkillers inside our body so even if your mind isn’t feeling up to working out right now, your body will thank you for it later on.

Self care

It is important that when you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, anxious or depressed that you take time to do something nice for yourself! Whether this means having some alone time so your mind can rest from the day’s events or treating yourself to an ice cream; sometimes all we need are some minutes devoted towards our own happiness as well! This will help to create a balance between work and play which is key to living with a mental illness.

Find your happy place

Remember that you are more than just someone who struggles with depression or anxiety; there’s much more to you! The best way we can treat ourselves during hard times is by finding what makes us happy whether it be going out for coffee with friends or taking time off from the office to read a book. This is something that we can do for ourselves and when the worst days come around, it’s important to know what will lift our spirits in order to feel better again!

Remember

It may seem like your mind does not want you but remember: there are people out there who care deeply for you; so make sure that you give them some time too because they need it too! Find someone to talk with who you feel safe around and discuss your feelings when they come. It’s really important that we take care of each other which is why it’s also necessary for us to learn how to be there for one another during our worst times; this will help keep the mental illness from getting worse as well as providing a stronger support system so no matter what happens, we can get through anything together.
