While I am sure there is some overlap between “self-aware” and “honest”, I am not sure there is any overlap between “self-aware” and “horizontal”.
Hor is a letter in the Latin alphabet that is meant to be vertical. It represents the word “horizon” and is used to refer to a line that is horizontal in shape. Horizontal refers to a line or plane that is horizontal in shape. Horizontal is a particularly important word when it comes to self-awareness because it is the very word that is used to describe the concept of how we should perceive the world.
Horizontal self-awareness is more important than vertical self-awareness because it allows us to shift our focus to how our thoughts and actions are affecting us. For example, when we think we are being self-aware we automatically shift our focus to where we think our thoughts, which is usually our own body.
Horizontal self-awareness is important because it allows us to take a step back and examine everything that we’ve done in our lives with purpose. If we’re self-aware we can examine what we’ve done so we can make a better decision. If we’re not aware of the habits, routines, impulses, or reactions that control our lives, then we’re basically just floating around doing whatever we want.
This is one of the reasons why I have a hard time being self-aware, because I’m so damn rigid with my own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions. I cannot focus on what I’ve done so I do not get distracted. But if I’m not self-aware, I also cannot see that I’m being distracted by something else.
I think that this is what people mean when they say we can “see the world like a camera.” It’s like we could see a tiny bit (if any) of the world around us, but we choose not to. In other words, we choose to be unaware of our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions. But we also have to decide to be aware of our habits, routines, impulse, and reaction.
This is a good point and one I’ve been thinking about my whole life. We all have habits, rituals, routines, impulses, and reactions. For some people this is more apparent than for others. The reason I mention this is because my wife has been talking about something rather specific with me. She mentions that if she is more aware of her habits, routines, impulses, and reactions she will have a much more pleasant life.
I think this is a good point. In my line of work, I am really good at noticing little things that might make me less aware of myself. When I was younger, I noticed that my mom often had bad or bad-but-not-quite-bad breath. This made me curious as to why she always smelled bad. I asked her and she told me to ask my dad.
So she told me that what I was observing was her habit of checking her breath while she was cooking, because she noticed that it wasn’t a regular habit. She said that this habit of checking her breath made her feel better but that she was being overly sensitive to it. So I asked her what she did with that feeling. She said that she often did this because she had a bad or bad-but-not-quite-bad breath.
My mom told me that her daughter sometimes checked her breath to make sure it wasn’t a bad habit. The good news is that it seems like most women do it. I would think that this was just a normal thing for most women, although I don’t know for sure. She said that she always checked her breath before she cooked so she could tell whether she had a bad breath.
