But what I’m about to tell you may be terrifying. You have to go to college to learn about security.

The biggest barrier to being a tech expert is the fear of failure. We all know that failure is the most common outcome of all our actions and the most feared of all. Without the fear of failure, success is very difficult. The only way you can become successful is to think of failure as your biggest competitor, and be willing to work as hard as you can to beat him. You want to work as hard as you can because failure is what makes you feel like a failure.

Tech companies are not immune to failure either. We all know the story of the three kids in a high school in Japan who had to walk across a field to get to the water fountain. The kid who made it had to be the first to jump the fence, which only left him with a very small chance of getting to the water. The second kid, who did not make it, was left behind.

In the tech field, failure is often viewed as a good thing. It means that you need to focus on building things that actually work. It means that you need to work as hard as you can because it means that you need to make a lot of good decisions, and you need to learn from your mistakes. But if you’re an engineer, your job is to write code that makes the world better, which means that the company will probably want to hire more engineers than developers. It’s a tough business, and one of the few jobs where you can be fired for being a bitch.

I think that the best way to be a tech whiz is to know how to write code that makes the world better. You gotta love that.
