A new trend in journalism is emerging, that of the citizen journalist. This person has a first hand experience with an event and this makes for more interesting and personal reporting. A recent example of this was when a woman who had just given birth to her son blogged about his birth from the perspective of the mother as she went through labor and delivery. The internet responded with such enthusiasm that it crashed the servers at CNN’s online site!
A few weeks ago my dad and I took a trip to the news stand. We always do this when we are feeling restless or need some inspiration for our next project. This time, as we were flipping through magazines and reading headlines, it felt like there was something new going on in the world. There was an undercurrent of anxiety that was palpable in all of the publications, which is not normal! It’s been a good year since I’ve seen such a universal sense of unease. What could be happening?

The world is still a scary place, but it’s also an amazing one. You never know what will happen in the next minute, and that’s exciting. Every time I turn on my phone there might be breaking news about some crazy happening all over the globe. It could be something as small as a new record being set or someone doing something incredible like climbing Mount Everest without oxygen tanks — or maybe it’ll just be another tragedy unfolding before our eyes. Regardless of the topic, these stories make me feel alive because they remind us that we are all living this life together whether we’re aware of it or not!
The world is changing daily. It’s a scary, yet exciting thing to think about. What are the things that could be happening in 5 years? 10 Years? 20 years from now? Will we still have our jobs and homes or will there be new ones for us to explore? The future is uncertain but it doesn’t mean we can’t speculate on what may happen tomorrow!
I’m an avid follower of the news and I like to stay up-to-date with what’s happening in my community. This blog is for people that are interested in the latest developments, but don’t have time to read through all the articles. My goal is to provide a brief summary of each topic and link back to where you can find more information.

This week, Trump’s victory in the presidential election has been met with protests and disbelief. All over the world, people are trying to come to terms with what that means for our country and its citizens. There is a lot of uncertainty about what this will mean for government policies on immigration, healthcare, climate change – just name it!
The past week has been a whirlwind of events. From the introduction and passing of the AHCA, to confirmation hearings for Trump Cabinet appointees, it’s been hard to keep up with everything that’s happened. It seems like every day brings something new that is both shocking and frightening. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by it all or just want someone to talk with, join our community on Facebook! The first New Year’s Eve that I spent with my now-husband was magical. We started off celebrating in our hometown of Austin, Texas and then made the long drive up to Denton for a midnight celebration on the square followed by late night pancakes at The Pancake Place (which is still one of my favorite restaurants). The next morning we went to Dallas where we watched fireworks from Reunion Tower.
If you’re like me, then there are probably a lot of things from last year that you’ve already forgotten about. The best way to keep up with all the happenings in the world is by reading blogs, and I’m here to remind you of some events that are worth noting again now.
The year of 2017 has been a difficult one for the world. With the passing of notable people such as George Michael, Tom Petty, Charles Manson and so many more we are left to remember their lives and what they meant to our society. At times like this we can be grateful for those still here with us, but also reflect on life in general.
This year has been one of the most tragic and devastating years for death. So far, there have been a total of 549 notable people who died in 2017. The list includes musicians, actors, athletes and many more with various backgrounds and ethnicities. We are hoping that 2018 will be a better year but we want to remember all those who passed on this past year so that their lives won’t be forgotten.
