I think it is important to note that music tech isn’t just about how to play a song or how to read sheet music.
Music is a fascinating field of study in itself. I think it should be taught in every high school. Music tech, however, is a very specific subset of that broader field. In a lot of music tech classes, the teacher might tell you things like “Play your way through the song that we’re teaching you” and then the music tech student would play the music in a weird way that is not “normal.
This is a good example of how this has continued to persist in the field, even though we’ve been able to get around the technical issues for years with technology. This is still a problem, but now it’s more of a problem of getting used to the weird way the student is playing the music rather than the problem that it’s not normal.
As the music tech student puts it, “Every time you put the music in, you make a new song.” This is a perfect example of how “normal” music tech school can become. The music tech student seems to be playing the same music over and over again with no apparent changes in how it sounds.
